The Innovation Lab Request for Proposals (RFP) process is how we take a promising idea and turn it into a well-supported pilot project that can drive meaningful change

Innovation Lab Types

Innovation Projects: Staff-led efforts to test new systems, tools, or practices. The goal is to solve a challenge or make our work more efficient.
Learning Circles: Small groups who come together to learn, share resources, and solve problems around a shared topic or goal.
Empathy IV Processes: A structured way to listen first. You’ll gather perspectives and lived experiences from those most impacted by a challenge before designing a solution.
Problems of Practice: Focused investigations into recurring issues. You’ll identify the root cause, try new approaches, and measure the results.
Innovation Lab RFP Process
Step 1:

Inspiration & Alignment Check

Align your idea with RMP’s ABCs – our Academic Vision, Big 5 Goals, and Concept Essence. Ensure the project elevates access.
Step 2:

Submit Your Proposal (RFP)

Complete the Innovation Project Proposal Form. Clearly state the challenge you want to address, the audience you are focused on, and the type of innovation you are proposing. Categories include Academic Instruction, Operations, Family Empowerment, Planning and Strategy, Student Proficiency, Translation and Accessibility, or Other.
Step 3:

Review & Selection

All proposals are reviewed by the RMP-U Founder’s Collaborative. The review looks at clarity, feasibility, impact, and alignment with organizational goals. View the rubric and see a sample completed RFP to understand what a strong proposal looks like.
Step 4:
Support & Resources
If your idea is selected, you’ll receive:Regular check-ins with an Innovation Lab lead or faculty member. Access to optional microgrants (Tier 1–3 budget guidelines) Use of the Innovation Lab progress tool to track learning and impact
Step 5:
Final project & Next steps
Put your plan into action. Collect data, track progress, and refine your approach as you go.
Step 6:
Reflection & Showcase
Share your results at the Innovation Lab Showcase. Your learnings will also be added to the RMP-U Resource Hub so others can build on your work.
